A Penny For Your Thoughts?
This Sunday we introduced a new series we are going to be going through at church. We're going to be looking at heroes from the Old Testament. Trent started off the series by taking a look at the story of Elijah at Mount Carmel. In the story Elijah is led by God to challenge the prophets of Baal to see whose God is more powerful. Although the prophets of Baal try for nearly a whole day to get Baal to send fire to the altar in the contest, they are not successful. Elijah, in spite of pouring lots of water on the altar, prays and God immediately sends fire from heaven. In this story God comes through to show Elijah and Israel who is the true God. From this story we can learn that God can always pass a test of his abilities. This does not mean that he will always take any test that we set up for him, but it does mean that he could. If God is leading us to do something, he will make a way for it to work. We can trust that God will always show up when it counts the most for us; just like he showed up when Elijah needed to demonstrate God's authority the most.
