This Sunday Trent spoke to us about the story of Abraham and the sacrifice of Isaac. In the story God calls Abraham to go and sacrifice Isaac, and because Abraham trusts God and wants to follow God's commands he goes to sacrifice Isaac. Just before Abraham actually sacrifices Isaac, however, God tells Abraham not sacrifice Isaac, but to sacrifice a ram that is nearby instead. In this story Abraham completely trusts God. He does not just trust the plan that he thinks that God has for him. He decides to follow God and sacrifice Isaac, even though he had expected Isaac to be the son that would fulfill God's promise of making Abraham a nation. He was willing to follow God and trust him, even when he did not understand God's plan. In our lives we have to trust God even when he is calling us in a different direction than the one that we expect him to call us. We have to obey even when we do not understand, and God will make it work out for us, just like he made it work out for Abraham and Isaac.
